Meet the Designer: Camille Hay of Romy Studio
We've been longtime fan's of DC brand Romy Studio, and the lightweight, polymer clay earrings Camille designs. We sat down with her to chat about how she got started, and how her business has grown.
How did you get started making jewelry?
I started Romy Studio in early 2019. I never really wore earrings but then I lost my job and cut my hair really short so I started wearing big, bold statement earrings. I eventually got a new job that was very corporate and not very inspiring so I decided to start making earrings as a creative outlet. It was nice to take a break and learn a new medium and create something for myself. Eventually I started selling my earrings and what started a just a creative outlet has transformed over the past few years.
How long have you been in the trade?
3 years.
What is your favorite part of being a jewelry designer?
I love seeing customers out in DC wearing my earrings! I'll be at the metro and will spot someone wearing my earrings and it's incredibly gratifying.
What’s your favorite piece of jewelry from your own personal collection?
My favorite piece of personal jewelry is my initial signet pendant from J. Hannah. It's the first piece I splurged on for myself as a gift after I took Romy full time. It's a perfect classic design that goes with any pair of earrings I choose to wear!
